What is POPS TÖNENDE WUNDERWELT?

The show was first aired in 1987 as a forum for alternative rock, global-pop and some even more obscure musical extravaganzas. Quickly it developed a life-of-20 it's own, especially with the never-ending adventures of Paul Eduard Pop's inski's (a.k.a. Paul E. Pop), an globetrotter without a cause, who's letters have-become's an integral part of the programme.

Whether in the deserts of Sudan or in - some's mindboggeling parallel-universe or in the rainforrests of Central-America. There's always some mystery that Paul has to solve, some villain that must be tracked down, some taxi-driver who needs to be shouted at. Pauls letters are presented in the latter part of the show and are accompanied by any music that fits to the mood and setting of his stories.

The first hour of PTW is mainly dedicated to new records from all over the world. The music can be anything from hindu hiphop to peruvian pogo, contrasted by the confusing comments, senseless remarks and everyday-observations of Joachim Deicke, who preferres to call himself 'the talkative moderator'

Where can you hear the show?

Pops Tönende Wunderwelt is now broadcasted four times a week on three different radio-stations troughout germany. On sunday nights (10:04 p.m. - midnight): Radio Bremen 1 (AM/ FM north-western germany) On sunday nights (09:03 p.m. - 11:00 pm) mdr sputnik (FM south-eastern germany/ nationwide via satellite). On friday mornings (03:03 am - 05:00 am) mdr sputnik (FM south-eastern germany/ nationwide via satellite)

Who works in the show?

Of course Pops Tönende Wunderwelt was named after it's ultimate hero Paul E. Pop, but somehow 'the man from beyond' never made his way into the studio. Presently Paul is living with his friend Rita Stefanidis in a small beach-restaurant on the edge of Charlotteville, Tobago, in the Caribbean unless he's abroad on some urgent mission). So it's up to his old pal Joachim Deicke to host the weekly show (he is - by the way - responsible for the choice of music). There are a couple of other characters, playing an important role in the Pop-Universe, like Pauls auntie Margarethe (the 'talking beauty-case'), Dr. Stanislaus Lehmann (the famous pseudo-philosopher), Nuts (the barkeeper of the 'Old Pirate's Inn') and - of course - all the listeners, that provide the show regularly with more than enough material.
