Guardaloop

Interpreter: Guardaloop
Label: Guasmd
Location: Brazil

From the heart of the Guadalupe district of Olinda, Brazil, comes the trailblazing Guardaloop. Featuring musicians aided and abetted by technology, drummer Hugo Carranca roped in pals to bring his concepts to life. No effort is made to separate technicians and musicians, and the result is an experimental fission of, well, just about everything, actually.

Changing shape and form almost bar by bar, it repays repeated listening in spades; a smoochy ballad is suddenly transformed into a raging stomper with savage megaphone voices leading the way, only to reassemble its various parts into a 60s cosmic-cowboy rumba complete with cheesy organ.  They know a trick or two, these wild cowboys of the rhythmic hinterland. It's wild, daddy-o!
