One-time Joe Zawinul sideman (with the Zawinul Syndicate), oud player Aziz Sahmaoui focusses on Sufi devotional music from the border regions of Morocco and Algeria. Gnawa trademarks are of course well to the fore, but the outfit also step into blues territory ('Kahina') as well as giving his former mentor's 'Black Market' a fairly radical once-over.
