Aimar Ventsel

Aimar Ventsel is a professional social anthropologist working in the University of Tartu, Estonia and University of Warwick, UK where he studies and publishes about the East Siberian ethnic and European underground music. He received his PhD in Germany, at Martin Luther University, Halle. Beside that he has his own world music radio show at the Estonian Radio 2. The state owned Radio 2 is a leading contemporary music station in Estonia. Ventsel’s radio show “Etnokonservid” covers all periods and genres of  world music, from old archival recordings to contemporary ethnic rock or club music. Beside that, many artists perform in the show they unplugged sessions directly on air. Once a month  “Etnokonservid” has an African special music show due the popularity of the African music especially in Tallinn, Estonian capital. “Etnokonservid is a 1 hour show, aired every Sunday evening at 19.00 and can be accessed on the radio’s website up to 4 weeks later. Outside of the academic and radio jobs I also work as the music editor of the biggest Estonian cultural monthly mag, Kultuuri Keskus, with the readership appr. 70.000. In the magazine, we published interviews with bands and record reviews.
