DJ: Gerard Godley

Radio Telefis Eireann Lyric fm

Dubliner Gerry Godley is a musical dilettante who indulges his love of world music on Reels to Ragas, the weekly one hour show he has been presenting every Tuesday on RTE Lyric FM since 2003. A late convert to a life in music and the arts, he spent many years in the restaurant business and this qualified chef has all the cuts to prove it. He cooks a mean bouillabaise.

The show has evolved over the years, and is now less dependent on the overtly rhythmic music, usually Latin, that was its earlier hallmark. In addition to staying on top of all the latest releases, consistent themes include Irish and Nordic folk music, the creative end of the jazz spectrum in dialogue with other traditions, and the occasional dip into the vivid world of old Lomax field recordings.

Gerry is also director of Improvised Music Company (IMC), a not for profit organisation for jazz and related music established in 1991. Today, its Ireland’s largest specialist music producer and resource organisation with a hands on involvement in many aspects of music making throughout the island from festival programming, concert promotion, touring, recording, education and audience development.
